I can't get over the fact that it claims to br an allomancer.

If you want my opinion... eh, personally I'd go with fanfiction. But it's your choice to make, so.

I... I think I must fan fiction. Because I love the Portal babes too much. And I like my characters interacting with the Portal ones. It almost feels like it's a crossover between my story and my favorite thing ever. Also, I think it's healthier not to worry so much what my parents think. And if they ask to read my writing, well, um... I might be able to get by with telling them I don't want them to read the first draft. Which is true, technically. Maybe I could do that, yeah.

Starting the fan fiction is harder. Dx But I can do it.

Rosie, there are lots of good reasons to skip the fanfiction. That is not one of them.
Sorry, that sounded a little rude, but it's true. Wasteland is yours, whether it's attached to Portal or it's original, whether it's about robots or you change it to a story about a group of turtles fighting to save the world. (Don't do that.) Wasteland is a deep story that explores a complex world, with interesting, realistic characters and many strong messages. Wasteland is your baby, or it's about your babies, or whatever. Wasteland will be beautiful, fanfiction or original story. Wasteland has a lot going for it.
You know what Wasteland isn't? Something that exists only to impress your parents.
I highly doubt I have it as bad as you, but I know how it feels when no one wants to take your dreams seriously and all you wanna do is wake up the next morning, an overnight success, just to be the one who proved them wrong. I know why you wanna make them proud, because they raised you, they take care of you, blah blah blah. But if they want a story suited to them, they can write it themselves, and it the meantime, you write Wasteland your way and don't get so caught up in them.
I have no doubt that it can blow them away, but your decisions about your work shouldn't center around anyone but you.

EDIT: I think everything I just said became irrelevant, because it looks like you made the decision yourself and realize it's better not to base everything off of their expectations, but in case you ever need a reminder. ^^

Anyway, though, I know it doesn't exist to impress my parents. And I'm not trying to impress them, really, just... prove them wrong. But I can do that eventually. I'll have it as an original story. But for now...

I guess I'm a little concerned about them reading it, or asking to read it, anyway. But if that happens, I... can work with that.

I just don't want you making your hard work into a tool to make your parents believe in you. That's a place they're gonna have to get to on their own, and there's really not anything you can do about it.
